It's debatable whether his obscene phone calls to Andrea Mackris are traditional. Phones didn't exist hundreds of years ago, and so making obscene phone calls isn't a tradition going back hundreds of years. However, married men seeking action from women besides their wives have existed for hundreds of years, and in that sense, Bill O'Reilly's attempt to commit adultery with Andrea Mackris is part of a tradition. Bill O'Reilly, 55, who is married with two children, was sued for sexual harassment for his remarks to Andrea Mackris, 33, who was Associate Producer of his tv show "The O'Reilly Factor" and an employee of Fox News during some of this time. He had made lewd remarks to her between May 2002 and July 2004. Since her complaint against him includes detailed transcripts, she probably taped some of the phone conversations. She filed the lawsuit on Oct. 13, 2004, and a settlement was announced on Oct. 28, 2004 for an undisclosed sum ("O'Reilly Settles Sex Harass Suit", CBS/AP, Oct. 28, 2004.) A source told the Washington Post that sum would be over $2 million ("Court TV Reporter Denies Aiding Accuser In O'Reilly Sex Suit" by Howard Kurtz, Oct. 23, 2004). Radio host Al Franken is running a contest in which fans of his show send in audio files of their impression of Bill O'Reilly. Contestants must base their submissions on the following excerpt of Bill O'Reilly from Andrea Mackris' complaint, in which Bill O'Reilly described what he'd do if he took her on a vacation to the Caribbean:
Most of the contest entries of people doing a Bill O'Reilly impersonation don’t include musical accompaniment. Guitar accompaniment is something innovative which Daniel Silva decided to include. Other Women, Some Who Work on 'The O'Reilly Factor' Bill O'Reilly didn't actually commit adultery with Andrea Mackris as his passes were unsuccessful, but the complaint strongly suggests he has cheated on his wife with other women. According to the complaint, some of the other women Bill O'Reilly has had affairs with and/or sexually harassed were also employees of Fox New who work on "The O'Reilly Factor." Bill O'Reilly, Bully The bully in Bill O'Reilly is shown in a passage of the complaint in which Andrea Mackris paraphrases what O'Reilly says he would do to any woman who spoke out about his affairs and/or sexual harassment:
It's almost enough to lead one to conclude that Bill O'Reilly isn't a fighter for "the folks" who is "looking out for you" but a creep. Next Saturday, Part II. About the Hypocrisy of Bill O'Reilly. .
